SASEBO-G-Ⅱ-32 Side-channel Attack Standard Evaluation Board By Inrevium™

Note

The SASEBO-G-Ⅱ-32 Side-channel Attack Standard Evaluation Board is retired and no longer for sale in our store.

  • Designed for the purpose of side-channel cryptographic attack experiments
  • Features two FPGAs:
  • Cryptographic FPGA: Xilinx Virtex-5 LX50
  • Control FPGA: Xilinx Spartan-3A 400
  • Both FPGAs are connected through a 38-bit common I/O bus with full flexibility in signal assignment
  • Shunt resistors are provided to insert on the core VDD and/or ground lines of the cryptographic FPGA for measuring power traces
  • On-board oscillator provides the control FPGA with a clock signal of 24MHz
  • External clock input also supported
  • USB interface for power supply & configuration
  • External power source supplies the on-board power regulators and the FPGAs with 5V. The power regulators convert the 5V input into 3.3V, 1.8V, 1.2V, and 1V for the FPGAs. The 1V core voltage of the cryptographic FPGA can also be applied directly through the external power connector.

With the rapid expansion of broadband networks and the spread of information appliances, IC cards, and radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, etc., large amounts of data are transferred in every phase of daily life. At the same time, security threats such as leakages and falsification of information are on the rise. Cryptography is widely used even in consumer products as a fundamental countermeasure against such threats. However, it is difficult for users to determine whether or not a cryptographic algorithm is implemented properly; it is not unusual for security flaws to be discovered in products advertised as perfectly secure.

The SASEBO-GⅡ has been designed for the purpose of side-channel cryptographic attack experiments. It features a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA which provides a very large logic area. For this FPGA, the operable configuration methods are SPI-ROM and Slave-SelectMap. The Spartan-3A FPGA controls these configuration mechanisms. This scheme makes not only dynamic reconfiguration but also static entire or partial reconfiguration possible. In addition, the SPI-ROM connected to the control FPGA has a sufficient capacity for configuring the cryptographic FPGA.

The SASEBO-GⅡ also features ability for hosting extra experiments enabled by the Virtex-5; it houses an embedded processor, connects with an on-board SRAM for storing data, and has the pins assigned to user I/Os including power lines and a pair of dedicated clock lines. These allow the board to add other interfaces for extra experiments such as a DAC/ADC for software radio or an Ethernet controller for network filtering. Spartan-3A also has a similar user I/O including connection to the USB interface through which the host computer controls and communicates with the board.

Finally, the SASEBO-GⅡ also features a very stable power supply, a necessary feature for power analysis experiments.
